The many phases of the shrine of the Cathach
The Cathach, an early psalter, is the oldest surviving manuscript in Ireland, and, according to tradition, is in the hand of St Columba or Colmcille. Dr Paul Mallarkey of the National Museum of Ireland traces the history and the significance of its shrine, now one of the treasures of the National Museum along with the history of other book shrines from medieval Ireland.
